The Highway Travelers began more than 50 years ago with a vision of Deacon James & Pastor Hattie Mickens. Singing was something Deacon Mickens loved to do, so he and Pastor Mickens formed a group. The group consisted of their thirteen children, “The Mickens Children” and they named themselves The Highway Travelers. As The Highway Travelers had children the group grew bigger and had to be split into two.  Deacon Mickens absolutely loved this.  He had his children, The Highway Travelers and his grandchildren, The Junior Travelers. He was proud to have his entire family doing what he loved, singing good gospel music.

The group now consists of Rev. Matthew Mickens, lead vocalist; Justin Mickens, lead vocalist, lead guitarist and son of Rev. Mickens; Colton Mickens, vocalist, bass guitarist and son of Rev. Mickens; Jamie Mickens,

vocalist, Keyboardist and nephew of Rev. Mickens; Mitchell Lowry, vocalist and godson of Rev.

Mickens.
